Luxury Apartments & Accessible Riverfront Planned For Toowong Site

City Cave Arndale

20 APRIL 2021 –

3 luxury residential apartment buildings, publicly accessible riverfront open space and land for the green bridge connecting Toowong to West End are all on the drawing board following Consolidated Properties Group’s purchase of the former ABC site at Toowong.

Consolidated Properties Group is now seeking feedback from local residents and encouraging participation via a meet and greet onsite with the project team. The series of information sessions will occur onsite on Thursday 6 May, Thursday 13 May and Sunday 16 May with locals encouraged to come along, ask questions and provide feedback.

Early concept planning for the riverside precinct is underway with the vision for the site to include either two or three residential buildings that comply with Brisbane City Council’s City Plan.

The designs will be no higher than 15 storeys and the site’s heritage-listed Middenbury House will be made accessible to the public for the first time since it was built as a private residence in 1865.

The plans will allow for the widening of Coronation Drive and cycle paths through the site, linking the Bicentennial Bikeway to St Lucia and will create a significant win for cyclists.

Consolidated Properties Group COO James MacGinley said the company would be seeking ideas from the community on possible activation of the historic Middenbury House and the riverside frontage which would remain open to the public.

“This is arguably the best vacant riverfront site in Brisbane and we’re looking forward to transforming it into luxury, riverfront apartments over the coming years,” he said.

“We’re engaged in early discussions with Council about the proposed green bridge and its possible connection to this site.

“While it is still early days, we’re very eager to work with local residents and Council in determining the best outcome for the community and preserving and making accessible the historic Middenbury House and activating the riverside frontage.”

“While the development of high quality apartments is a major focus for us, the site as a whole will be an important civic asset and catalyst site for the entire suburb of Toowong.”

Consolidated Properties Group is interested in hearing from the community about possible future uses of Middenbury House Mr MacGinley said the project team would deliver a cycling and walkway connection through the site to Archer Street and a connection to the proposed green bridge which would be a vastly improved outcome for pedestrians and cyclists.

Brisbane City Council has identified the site as one of three options for its preferred alignment and landing location for the Toowong to West End green bridge which is expected to be built by the end of 2023.

A development application for a reconfiguration of the lots across the 1.5 hectare site will be lodged shortly.
