Moggill Gets First New Shopping Centre in 50 Years

Moggill residents’ near 50 year wait for a new shopping centre is about to end this Saturday (JUNE 12) with the opening of the $45m Coles Moggill Village.

The 6100m2 development, 30 minutes west of the Brisbane CBD and opposite Moggill State School, is the first new shopping centre to be developed in Moggill since 1973.

It has been developed by Consolidated Properties Group in partnership with Newground Capital Partners, while Hutchinson Builders commenced work on the project in April 2020, generating 200 jobs.

A large 3500sqm Coles supermarket anchors the centre, which also features 18 specialty stores and offices.

The Coles will open on Saturday, creating 60 new jobs in Brisbane’s west, and replacing the store in neighbouring Bellbowrie which closes on Friday. (JUNE 11)

The supermarket has been built to flood-proof standards and is a third larger than the Bellbowrie outlet, which flooded in 2011.

Consolidated Properties Group Head of Retail, Kieran Cox, said the opening marks not just a milestone for the centre but also the communities of Moggill and Bellbowrie.

Mr Cox said it meets demand for new product in the area where incomes are 30 per cent higher than the Brisbane average.

“Moggill has been without a new shopping centre since 1973 so Saturday marks a big occasion for the whole community,” Mr Cox said.

“Coles Moggill Village delivers not just a brand-new Coles supermarket with several Queensland-firsts but also 18 speciality stores, 16 of which have already been committed to medical, food and beverage operators, BWS, pharmacy, Australia Post and a national gym operator.

“The Australia Post store and newsagency has been operational since March, bringing a wide range of services to the area such as early-morning parcel pick up.”

Mr Cox said the centre’s opening is even more noteworthy given it was built during the covid-19 pandemic.

“The centre was delivered on time and importantly within budget despite the challenges and difficulties brought by the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

“It provides a high level of amenity to the area and will become a suburban hub in Brisbane’s west.”

The 315-carpark centre at 3366 Moggill Rd also features two EV charging bays, the first of their kind in the area.
