Childhood friends sign $1 billion in Brisbane construction contracts
In a 30-day period, Consolidated Properties Group (CPG) CEO & Chairman Don O’Rorke and Hutchinson Builders Chairman Scott Hutchinson have signed $1 billion worth of construction contracts across three Brisbane projects, providing certainty for 420 new homes and a major commercial development.
Having grown up together in Brisbane, the childhood friends are working together to deliver Castile at Newstead, Gloriette at Yeerongpilly Green and 949 Ann Street in Fortitude Valley.
Mr O’Rorke said the agreements gave buyers, financiers and government complete confidence in the delivery of the projects.
“Scott and I have known each other for decades. There’s a lot of trust there, backed by a long history of our businesses working together,” Mr O’Rorke said.
“We’re local, we’re here for the long term, and we have the financial backing and construction experience to get these projects built.
“For buyers, it means knowing who will build their home and that a construction contract is in place. For financiers, Brisbane City Council and the State and Federal Governments, it’s an important step towards delivering more housing.
“It also means work for subcontractors, with the financial capacity behind the projects to make sure they get paid.”
The announcement coincides with the sod turning at Castile, CPG’s residential development on Newstead’s last remaining absolute riverfront development site – a rarity in Brisbane
Located at 47 Skyring Terrace and designed by award winning architects Woods Bagot, Castile will deliver 229 luxury apartments across a 25-storey tower and 12 residences in a boutique six-storey riverfront building.
Gloriette will deliver a further 181 apartments within the Yeerongpilly Green precinct, bringing the combined housing supply across the two projects to 420 homes.
Mr Hutchinson said the contracts gave Hutchinson Builders and its subcontractors a substantial pipeline of work.
“Don and I understand how each other works, and we know what it takes to deliver projects of this scale,” Mr Hutchinson said.
“Having these contracts signed allows us to plan our teams, engage subcontractors and get on with construction.
“For buyers at Castile and Gloriette, it’s a commitment from both of our businesses to deliver their homes.”
Castile’s sales office will formally open in February 2027. Prospective buyers can register now for project updates and information on available residences at www.castilenewstead.com.au.
