DAPPLE + WAVER FINDS NEW PERCH AT YG RIVERSIDE VILLAGE
Brisbane bar Dapple + Waver is giving fans an early New Year present with news the popular establishment will return this year at YG Riverside Village in Yeerongpilly Green.
Dapple + Waver, which closed its doors at the Toombul Shopping Centre following devastating floods in February 2022, will join the line up at YG Riverside Village – the retail hub of the Yeerongpilly Green community being developed by Consolidated Properties Group and CVS Capital Partners.
Construction has started on the retail centre, which is due to open mid this year and will be comprised of a modern-full line Woolworths supermarket, boutique offices, specialty retailers, a dining precinct and a major gym and wellness precinct in addition to secure basement car parking.
Dapple + Waver co-owner Aidan McGarrity, who also runs the successful Beyond The Pale bar in Coorparoo, said there had been an outcry of support from the local community when they were forced to close.
“The vast majority of people absolutely loved it and the support we received when we closed was unbelievable,” Mr McGarrity said.
“Everyone jumped on Facebook and were saying this is the biggest loss for Nundah.”
He said the Toombul location managed to build a loyal following despite being subject to a long spate of bad luck since opening three months before the covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
“We had built up a great customer base and were doing a roaring trade, and then we were hit with the February flood. However, the move to YG Riverside Village is our silver lining,” he said.
Mr McGarrity said the Yeerongpilly area lacked a good local suburban bar and it was this he was hoping to deliver with the return of Dapple + Waver.
“I lived in that area for eight years and I know it’s crying out for a bar – there’s just nowhere to go,” he said.
“What we offer is that neighbourhood bar that has a connection to the area where it is based. We would get people coming in every day to Dapple + Waver, and it wasn’t because of the special offers – they wanted to chat and interact with staff that knew them and their favourite drink.”
Mr McGarrity said they already have approved designs for the new venue with the fitout set to last about 10 weeks.
He said the design of YG Riverside Village is “fantastic” with a broad mix of retailers and services on offer.
“We have a diverse range of customers and can host an 18th birthday party and baptism celebration all on the same day, so we love the idea of having the dining, wellness precinct, gym and supermarket all in the one place.”
Mr McGarrity said they were grateful for the support offered by the State Government since the floods shut down their Toombul operation which he said was a “big help”.
Consolidated Properties Group National Manager for Retail Leasing, Rob Clifton, said Dapple + Waver is a wonderful addition to the growing line up at YG Riverside Village.
“Every shopping village needs a great neighbourhood bar and that’s why we’re so excited to be bringing Dapple + Waver top YG Riverside Village,” Mr Clifton said.
“They built up a strong, loyal following at their previous location and we’re confident they will become a favourite fixture when they open.
“YG Riverside Village is filling up fast with just a few tenancies available which we are confident will be filled early in the New Year.”
