In the community: CPG donates to Hummingbird House

Hummingbird House was initially the vision of Gabrielle and Paul Quilliam, though it has since grown and evolved to become the shared vision of thousands of families and supporters across Queensland.

In the late 2000s, Gabrielle and Paul embarked on a new chapter in their lives, becoming foster parents to a precious little girl with a life-limiting condition. They walked the journey with her through transplants, surgeries, recoveries and the challenges associated with trying to maintain any semblance of normality while caring for and loving a child with a life limiting condition. All the while they were sharing the precious moments of her first smiles, her first words, and the joy she brought into the world.

But the emotional, physical and financial stress was immense. Gabrielle and Paul looked for support to help them, ideally a children’s hospice that could offer periodic respite breaks for the whole family. Unfortunately, while outstanding children’s hospices are available for families to access in New South Wales and Victoria, there were none in Queensland.

Hummingbird house was established to provide world-class respite and end of life care for life-limited children and their families, and to help them discover moments and create memories to last a lifetime.
