O’Rorke completes 12-year Surfing Australia Board Membership

This week Consolidated Properties Executive Chairman, Don O’Rorke, completes a 12-year commitment to the Board of Surfing Australia. However, Don continues his involvement with Surfing Australia as part of the Financial Audit and Risk Committee that he commenced two years ago and will also provide property construction advice as needed.

“12 years ago, Surfing Australia was led by a small sports-based Board. The present Board provides an exceptional depth of experience and resulting governance framework that is almost unparalleled in the sporting world” Don said.

Over his 12 years, Don has provided advice to Surfing Australia on: property and construction, effective engagement with Government, as well as general commercial insight.

Consolidated Properties Group made several donations over Don’s tenure, with the most notable being approximately $500 K towards the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) at Casuarina in NSW. The HPC is the world’s first facility dedicated to the development of all surfers – open to professionals and local, interstate and international recreational surfers who want to improve their ability. Designed in consultation with the Australian Institute of Sport it features state-of-the art education facilities, a surf specific gymnasium, testing and treatment room, auditorium, and onsite accommodation for 22.

“Surfing Australia has quadrupled in size and is now focused on representing the sport from community-based Learn to Surf to the professional sports arena, including the Olympics. Its income base has substantially broadened to include many commercial partnerships” Don said.

This experience has presented learnings back to Consolidated Properties Group, specifically in the areas of its digital footprint and corporate governance.

Don’s love for surfing certainly continues. He enjoys weekly surfs and two trips to the Indonesian archipelago each year.
