Palm Beach Fish And Chips Shop Is Hunky Dory
Seafood restaurant Hunky Dory has opened the doors to its first store in Queensland at Pavilions Palm Beach, giving Gold Coasters an alternative to the traditional fish and chip shop.
Hunky Dory Palm Beach is owned and operated by Tory and Fiona Trewhitt, who have relocated their young family from Melbourne to offer locals a taste of their ‘fast, healthy and fresh’ menu.
The Trewhitt’s are behind the successful Hunky Dory Byron Bay restaurant, which together with Palm Beach, joins 16 other restaurants nationwide.
Mr Trewhitt says after he worked in a Hunky Dory restaurant in Melbourne, the family decided to make a sea-change to bring their brand of seafood to South East Queensland.
“I spent a couple of years learning the business in Melbourne and realised there was nothing else like Hunky Dory further north, and saw the opportunity from both a business and lifestyle perspective,” he said.
“Hunky Dory is unique because it is a blend between a traditional fish and chip shop and a seafood restaurant. More than half of our customers choose to dine in, and that’s because we are licensed and offer quite an extensive menu.
“In addition to seafood, which is delivered fresh daily from Brisbane, we also offer a range of healthy salads, including traditional Garden, Greek and Coleslaw along with gourmet options like Cous Cous, Cauliflower and Kale and Broccoli bowls.
“We cater for those who are Vegan and have dietary requirements, and also have non-seafood dishes like Chicken skewers and wraps.”
Mr Trewhitt says the couple chose Palm Beach because it is the Gold Coast’s newest growth corridor.
“When you look at population growth along the coastline, Palm Beach is one of the fastest growing areas,” he said.
“We’ve had great success in Byron Bay since opening Hunky Dory there twelve months ago, but we’re really excited about Palm Beach because while it does cater for tourists, it has a great local community which we’re really keen to be a part of.
“We feel like Palm Beach, with its sun, surf and locals who like to keep active and healthy, is the right spot for our next adventure.
“Our location fronting the highway makes it easy for people to stop by and say hello and pick up some lunch to enjoy at the beach, or dine in and sample an array of dishes paired with great wine.”
Hunky Dory has secured a 134sqm tenancy on the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Fourth Avenue.
Limited tenancies remain available at Pavilions Palm Beach.
